Play without Boundaries

Explore More Discovery Museum understands that for some children with autism, learning differences, and other sensory or communication needs, a visit to an interactive museum like Explore More can be difficult or overstimulating. Play without Boundaries is a low sensory event where children and their families can explore the Museum without the noise, crowds, and stimulation of a typical day. During this time, the museum will be closed to the general public and special sensory friendly activities will be offered! Families will have access to the entire museum as well as Quiet Zones stocked with calming, sensory toys. This event is make possible through a grant from Autism Speaks. more

Mervyn Taylor: Open Mic & Poetry Reading

Join us for an open mic and poetry reading from international poet, Mervyn Taylor at The Golden Pony in downtown Harrisonburg on March 23. Taylor is a Trinidad-born poet who divides his time between Brooklyn, NY, and his native island. In his poems, for which he received two New York State Council on the Arts Grants, Taylor returns consistently to themes that deal with ordinary folk, with family and friends, finding the heroic quality of their lives as they face the difficulties of survival. more
