The Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project created self guided driving or walking tours in Harrisonburg, and throughout the Valley, featuring historic African American churches, burial grounds, businesses and museums.
Local historians, educators, members of the community and historic African American churches curated the tours to tell the African American history. If these tours inspire you to search for more information about the people, places, and communities, our digitized historic records on the Histories Along the Blue Ridge website is a great resource to get started: https://omeka.lib.jmu.edu/erp/
