APPALACHIAN TRAIL FILM SCREENING + HIKER PRESENTATION
COURT SQUARE THEATER
APRIL 18 @ 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

The Harrisonburg Appalachian Trail Community brings a film screening and a presentation by an Appalachian Trail hiker to Court Square Theater.

“The Long Start to the Journey” follows filmmaker Chris Gallaway on his attempt to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.

“Frost” (as he comes to be known on the trail) encounters severe weather, injury, loneliness, and fascinating characters he meets along the way. He walks over 2,000 miles in seven months, experiencing major life changes from becoming engaged to a close family tragedy. In the course of his hike discovers the origin story of the Appalachian Trail and how the early values and battles of the trail movement shaped what the AT has become today.

The Long Start to the Journey is a beautiful odyssey through the mountains of eastern America, a story of growth through perseverance. It reveals why wilderness is something essential for people in the modern world.

AMY MARTIN WITH BONNIE & THE MERE MORTALS
CLEMENTINE
APRIL 27 @ 9PM

Originally from Harrisonburg, Virginia, Amy Martin spent the majority of her adult life in her beloved hometown. On her recently released album, “Travelin’ On”, Martin explores the breaking point between investing in a problematic, yet beloved place, and moving on to fully realize one’s self and one’s dreams.

For Bonnie & the Mere Mortals, the term “Southern gothic” is very literal, as they find themselves with one foot in country and the other in goth and shoegaze, all with queer lyrical themes. It’s a creative blending of genres that seems to attract listeners of both the country and gothic persuasions and finds odd connections between the two cultures.

No, you do not need to bring a set partner. Lindy Hop is a social dance, so during class, we will be frequently switching practice partners. You’ll have a chance to meet and dance with plenty of new friends.

No worries! We will have an hour long beginner class that should give you the tools you need to successfully dance a whole song. After the lesson, you can practice your skills and learn more swing from the other attendees.
