Rocktown Yarn is owned and operated by Amy Strunk. Amy is also a life-long fiber enthusiast: her mom and partner-in-crime, Julie, taught her to knit and crochet when she was seven years old, and her grandmother taught her to sew when she was ten.
Amy rediscovered her love of all things fiber in 2017 as a way to de-stress after long work days at her job in the hectic Northern New Jersey/New York City metro area. After a chance encounter in a New York City knitting store, Amy was hired by fashion designer Daniel Gregory Natale to crochet doilies used in his Spring/Summer 2019 collection, which was shown at Toronto Fashion Week and featured in Elle Canada. This experience inspired her to begin exploring ways to integrate her love for business and marketing with her passion for fiber arts.
Amidst the chaos of 2020, Amy moved back to her hometown, Harrisonburg, Virginia to be closer to family and to fulfill her dream of opening her own local yarn shop. She hopes to build a strong, inclusive community around fiber arts and encourage those who are new to yarn crafts to explore and learn.
