The Ken and Brad Kolodner Quartet

July 14, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Four award-winning performers on stage together. Ken & Brad K, with Rachel Eddy & Alex Lacquement, present GREAT old-time traditional music!!

Regarded as one of the most influential hammered dulcimer players in the US, Baltimore’s Ken Kolodner joined forces with his son Brad Kolodner, one of the finest practitioners of the clawhammer banjo, to perform tight and musical arrangements of original and traditional old-time music with a “creative curiosity that lets all listeners know that a passion for traditional music yet thrives in every generation.” The dynamic father-son duo pushes the boundaries of the Appalachian tradition by infusing their own brand of driving, innovative, tasteful, and unique interpretations of traditional and original fiddle tunes and songs. Rounding out the quartet is the mid-Atlantic’s go-to bassist Alex Lacquement (Charm City Junction, The Bumper Jacksons, Letitia Van Sandt) and one of the best-known purveyors of old-time music, WV native (and now in Alexandria, VA) multi-instrumentalist Rachel Eddy. The full ensemble performs on hammered dulcimer, twin and triple fiddles, harmonica, banjo, gourd banjo, hammered mbira, guitar, bass, and vocals. The Kolodners have recorded four CDs including two with the full quartet. Their latest CD, Stony Run, hit #4 on The Bluegrass Billboard Charts despite the inauspicious release date of March 13, 2020 (seriously!). In the summer of 2019, The Ken and Brad Kolodner Quartet placed first out of nearly 50 bands from around the U.S. at The Neo-Traditional Band Contest at The Appalachian String Band Festival (“Clifftop”). The Kolodner’s are also at the core of the region’s traditional music scene, running The Baltimore Old-Time Music Festival, the hugely popular Baltimore Old-Time Jam and a host of other concerts and events. Brad is also a well-known folk DJ with Bluegrass Country (WAMU) and Folk Alley.
