What is Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance?

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to downtown revitalization. Founded in 2003, HDR is conveniently located in the Ice House building in historic downtown Harrisonburg. At HDR, staff and interns work closely to promote the downtown district, create engaging events for the community, and provide support to downtown businesses.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Producing regular social media “Takeovers” that showcase the wide variety of downtown businesses and points of interest.
  • Researching and writing regular blog posts including “round-up” style posts (i.e. Valentine’s Day date ideas) and “Friendly Faces of the Friendly City” features (interviewing and telling the stories of people in the downtown community)
  • Developing video content for our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), YouTube channel, website, etc.
  • Taking ownership of our online directory and events listings, including researching downtown businesses to write and update compelling directory entries and adding events to our Events Calendar on our website’s WordPress backend
  • Assisting with other content development and writing tasks as needed, which may include work on our website, email newsletter, social media, community events, and developing print materials
  • Other duties as assigned – we encourage interns to bring in their own passions and ideas to promote downtown Harrisonburg!
