Friends of Downtown
Businesses that make an annual contribution at the following levels or higher are recognized as Business Friends of Downtown.
HDR supports all businesses in Downtown Harrisonburg through our nonprofit mission. However, we cannot do this work alone. We are so grateful for the support of downtown business owners who are committed to building our downtown together and making our work sustainable.
Contribution Levels
Not only are Business Friends of Downtown actively making a difference in our community, they unlock powerful communal benefits as well. We believe that we are able to make a greater impact on downtown when our businesses support our work and each other. Therefore, Friends of Downtown are eligible for the following programs:

Downtown Dollars
Downtown Dollars is our downtown-wide gift certificate program. As a Business Friend of Downtown, your business will be listed online and in the printed flyer included with every certificate, and you will receive a Downtown Dollars window cling. That way, customers know they can spend their Downtown Dollars with you!
Dining & Holiday Gift Guides
Business Friends of Downtown can opt to participate in our annual dining and/or holiday gift guides. These resources are printed and included in the Daily New-Record and are available online with a targeted social media ad campaign. Businesses can also opt to receive free professional photographs for these publications if needed.

Additional Promotion & Recognition
Business Friends of Downtown are recognized in content development for our newsletter content, social media, and media pitches throughout the year. All Business Friends are recognized as donors on our website and in our annual report. They are also specially invited to our annual Celebration Reception event in November.
Sip & Stroll
Sip & Stroll is an element to HDR’s events that replaces the usual beer garden. Adults aged 21+ can purchase a beer, wine or cocktail to enjoy while strolling within the downtown event footprint. Businesses Friends of Downtown are eligible to participate in the Sip and Stroll license during applicable events.
Special Event Participation
Business Friends of Downtown are eligible to participate in exclusive roles at HDR events, including but not limited to Cookie Tour stops, Skeleton Festival Trick-or-Treat stops (with some candy provided), and the Veterans Parade.
