Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance has diverse volunteer opportunities that can accommodate your interests and amount of free time - whether you enjoy volunteering at special events or would like a more active role. Special Event Volunteer

Special event volunteers usually work on the day of a festival or event for a block of set hours. Tasks may include set-up, assistance at the information booth, and break-down. View HDR's annual events, and sign up! Estimated time involved: 4-8 hours

Special Event Sub-Committee Member

Subcommittee members help with all aspects of planning an event from the very beginning. Tasks include fund raising, logistics, volunteer recruitment, and day-of implementation. Estimated time involved: 1 or more hours per month for 6-10 months per year, depending on the event.


Downtown Street Team Volunteer

Help get the word out about what's happening downtown through active, hands-on marketing. Distribute promotional materials, develop relationships with downtown businesses, and share your love of downtown with the community. Estimated time involved: 1-2 hours per week, from once a month to every week.

Join an HDR Committee

HDR utilizes the Main Street Four-Point Approach™ -- a proven downtown revitalization strategy created by the National Main Street Center. The four points shape our committees. 

Design Committee

The Design Committee promotes the physical appearance of downtown by supporting the reuse of historic buildings, encouraging new construction compatible with the existing built environment, and beautifying the streetscape. Past projects included downtown clean up days, holiday decorations, providing design guidance and advice, facilitating free architectural services, and beautifying the planters in Court Square. Estimated time involved: 1 hour per month with additional hours as necessary.

Economic Development Committee

The Economic Development Committee works to grow local economic opportunities and create a supportive environment for small businesses through assistance programs, grants, customer and market research, and business recruitment. Estimated time involved: 1 hour per month with additional hours as necessary.

Organization Committee

The Organization Committee members help plan Renaissance Night, our annual fundraiser held in May; organizes Celebration & Reception in February; and considers new methods of fund raising, helps recruit and reward volunteers, and develops ways to keep the public informed about what's happening downtown. Estimated time involved: 1 hour per month from June-February and 2 hours per month from March-May.

Promotions Committee

Be part of a committee that promotes downtown to potential customers, investors, new businesses, community members, and visitors through effective marketing strategies and special events. Estimated time involved: 1 hour per month, with additional hours as necessary.
