A New Year is almost here! What's your plans to usher in 2018?

On New Year's Eve, many downtown restaurants and retail stores will be open during their regular hours. Whether you're hosting or attending a party, or better yet, you're planning to celebrate New Year's Eve downtown, we've got the scoop for you!

Pre-Festivities Pick-Up

When people think of New Year's Eve, usually the first thing that comes to mind is champagne, parties, and fun. So why not head downtown to gather all of the things you'll need to make those things happen?

Midtowne Bottle Shop

Midtowne Bottle Shop

With five breweries, a bottle shop, wine shop, and grocery store that carries an impressive selection of beer, wine and bubbly in downtown, you'll find what you need to toast to 2018. Check out Brothers Craft Brewing, The Friendly Fermenter, Pale Fire Brewing Company, Three Notch'd Valley Collab House, and Wolfe Street Brewing for a seasonal brew made in the Shenandoah Valley. Midtowne Bottle Shop features an all-Virginia beer section, a variety of gluten-free beers, ciders and meads plus crafted sodas. Get a growler filled at any of these locations for your celebration!

If you're looking for a nice bottle of wine or specialty champagne, Downtown Wine and Gourmet. You can never go wrong with a bottle of their Italian Prosecco. And, don't forget about Friendly City Food Co-op. They have wines from around the world and a carefully crafted selection of beer and cider. Whatever you choose, any of these businesses can help you select someone that's memorable for you and your guests.

Decorations and Games

With the holiday season coming to a close around New Year's, it's the perfect time for one last hoorah of decorations and outfits. If you're hosting a New Year's Eve party or just looking for an opportunity to be festive, Glen's Fair Price Store has plenty of New Year's party kits (which can be bought in a pack of 25 or 50), featuring hats, blowouts, horns, squawkers, and more. If you're hosting a New Year's get-together for kids, board games from Horizon Gifts are a great way to let everyone join in the fun.

New Year's is a time when people look back on the past year and strive to make positive and lasting resolutions. To attempt this, many people will try eating a little "luck" on either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. Some old wives tales say that some of the luckiest foods to eat for New Year's are ham, black-eyed peas, and collard greens. If you already have a New Year's recipe of your own or want to try something new, head no further to the Friendly City Food Co-op, where you can snag some of these organic items (even in bulk). And if you need a recipe that includes all three of these lucky ingredients, we've got you covered.
