Prepare and Celebrate Thanksgiving in Downtown Harrisonburg
Thanksgiving is officially only 9 days away, if you can believe it! That means there's only 9 days left to solidify your Thanksgiving plans, including where you'll be going, who you'll be hosting, what you'll be serving, or what you'll be bringing. Let's us help! Here's your guide to help preparing, celebrating, and enjoying this Thanksgiving in downtown Harrisonburg:
If you're scrambling to figure out what type of pie to bring to your mother-in-law's house or want to impress your guests around the table with some tasty sweet potatoes, we've got you covered.
Before tomorrow, November 15th, you can pre-order your Thanksgiving turkey AND sides at the Friendly City Co-op. Get your turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and more by filling out a pre-order form.
Looking for something sweet for your table? Luckily Bella Gelato will be taking pre-orders only for pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and Parker House style dinner roles. Cookie and bread will also be available up until Thanksgiving, but we'd suggest ordering ahead for those items as well (we all know bread is a hot commodity).
Order by November 16th, and get turkey with dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato pie for pick up.
The Meal Itself
If you're not a huge fan of cooking, head downtown for a Thanksgiving meal with family and friends. Here are a few places that'll make you feel thankful!
The Joshua Wilton House will be serving a special Thanksgiving menu from Noon-4pm, with 3 courses, for $75 per person on the day itself. Try the seasonal butternut squash bisque to start, then top it off with a turkey dinner for the main course (featuring green beans, smashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce) and pumpkin pie, pecan pie, or apple pie for dessert. If you're not into traditional Thanksgiving food, you can't beat Joshua Wilton's fried oysters and filet mignon!
Don't worry, Jack Brown's will be open on Thanksgiving day from 11am-2am with their usual menu. Because it'll be Thursday, try their daily special, El Chancho, featuring a burger topped with black bean and corn queso, white cheddar cheese, and fritos. Hey, and you might want to get a side of sweet potato fries to get in the Thanksgiving spirit!
Head on down to Finnigan's between 4pm-2am for a $10.95 Thanksgiving dinner special featuring mac and cheese and add-ons for $2.25 each. Plus, it's never too late to grab a Thanksgiving beer and watch some football with family and friends!
Whether you're coming into town or have family and friends visiting you, you'll want to stay busy during Thanksgiving weekend. Here are a few fun ideas to celebrate:
Nothing compares to reuniting with friends from home the night before Thanksgiving. Dance the night away at The Golden Pony on Wednesday November 22nd with DJ Golden Boy at 9pm!
Before chowing down on your Thanksgiving meal, take your family to the Rocktown Turkey Trot to get some exercise in! The Gobble Gobble Kids Dash will begin at 8am on Thanksgiving day, with the Rocktown Turkey Trot for adults following at 8:30am. Show up dressed in some festive Thanksgiving running gear, and pick up your race bib when you check in!
